HOCKING HILLS OFFERS RUNNING, BIKING AND MORE FOR ACTIVE TRAVELERS

 

LOGAN, Ohio – Whether active travelers like to include an early-morning run, a casual bike ride or a personal-best in a triathlon, southeast Ohio’s Hocking Hills region offers a deep lineup of sports-related experience and competitions, all set against a beautiful backdrop of rushing waterfalls, lush forests and soaring rock faces.

 

 

Working out is never more relaxing or refreshing than when followed by an overnight stay at one of the many rustic yet luxurious cabins, country inns, historic bed & breakfasts or comfortable hotels of the Hocking Hills.  The countless things to see and do and the area’s long list of affordable lodging and family-friendly restaurants make it easy to turn a trip for an outdoor sports event into an unforgettable getaway.  In addition, local massage therapists make “house calls” to cabins and inns and many of the area’s cabins offer hot tubs as a way to relax after a day of running, hiking, biking or any activity.

 

 

Hocking Hills visitors can begin their day with a morning run. Many of the trails through Hocking  Hills  State Park are ideal for running, as is the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway and off-the-beaten-path roads located near the regions many cabins, inns and bed & breakfasts. The annual Indian Run attracts a large field of hundreds of runners who come to compete in distances ranging from 5-kilometers to 60-kilometers. Taking place each September, the Indian Run snakes competitors through the scenic trails of Hocking  Hills  State Park and Hocking  State  Forest.

 

 

Running isn’t the only outdoor pursuit for visitors. There are many bike paths and cycling-friendly routes throughout the Hocking Hills region, including the popular Hockhocking Adena Bikeway that is part of Ohio’s extensive rails-to-trails effort. The Hockhocking Adena path takes riders on a 19-mile journey from Nelsonville to Athens, and the trail that’s perfect for biking, walking and rollerblading.

 

 

In addition, the area offers two incredibly scenic golf courses, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing and other athletic pursuits.
