Fall Fun in the Hocking Hills

Ohio’s Hocking Hills offers one-of-a-kind fabulous fall activities

 

 

Logan, Ohio  USA – With autumn’s arrival, travelers are seeking memorable getaways where they can experience the most beautiful weather and scenery the US has to offer.  Home to some of North America’s most spectacular fall foliage, southeast Ohio’s Hocking Hills region offers a variety of hidden escapes, including everything from an annual Fall Color Hike, to horse-drawn hayrides every Saturday afternoon at Lake  Hope and an apple butter extravaganza.  Complete information on these and a long list of other events is available at www.1800Hocking.com or by calling 1-800-HOCKING.

 

 

Hocking Hills visitors will discover autumn’s best colors led by a seasoned naturalist during Grandma Gatewood’s Fall Color Hike on Oct. 18.  Beginning at , this considerable hike starts at Old Man’s Cave and covers six miles of the Grandma Gatewood Trail, unearthing the region’s unique scenic beauty and cultural personality.  A frequent Hocking Hills hiker, Grandma Gatewood was the first solo woman to hike the 2,168-mile Appalachian Trail.

 

 

The 29th annual Fall Hike at Lake  Hope  State Park takes guests on three-mile guided hike starting at . on Oct. 18, at the Shelter House, ending with bean soup and corn bread at Hope Furnace. After this refreshing hike, shuttles will take hikers back to their cars.

 

 

The Oct. 11 Full Moon Romantic Trip at Hocking Valley Canoe Livery features a peaceful evening of nighttime canoeing, followed by a bonfire, refreshments and entertainment and is just $35 per person.  

 

Visitors will celebrate the region’s remarkable fall foliage by taking an educational glimpse at Hocking Hills’ at the Artisan Mall in Logan.  Guests will discover many local plants, learn interesting facts about their historical and Native-American uses, enjoy fall crafts, native foliage and seasonal recipes as they wander through a unique display of antiques and crafts. The Apple Butter Fellowship at Inn the Woods Campground on Oct. 11, from will teach travelers the secrets to making apple butter, soups and fried walleye all over the open fire. Guests can pitch horseshoes, hike, join a sing-a-long and watch movies. Adults are $10 and children under 16 are free.

 

 

For nature lovers who wish to preserve images of the Hocking Hills, wildlife photographer, Eric Hoffman, is hosting a hands-on five-hour workshop on Oct. 21 and 22. Hoffman will provide his personal attention at these one-on-one workshops. Class space is limited and the cost is $69.

 

 

Travelers will have a haunting good time at the Old Man’s Cave Halloween Campout, Oct. 31 – November 1, featuring age-old Halloween traditions such as hayrides, a spooky family fun movie, pumpkin decorating, campfires and campsite trick-or-treating.

 

Every Saturday in October, from , a horse-drawn hayride will take visitors around Lake Hope, where they’ll experience the region’s beautiful fall color up close and personal.
